I figured it looked alright, and a fun alpha, but by no means was I going to get hype. I’m a game developer, and when I saw clips and my friends were howling about how great it was, I couldn’t see the appeal. If you like medieval fantasy RPGs and extraction looter games, there is almost 0% chance you wont like this. (One of the worst parts imo of tarkov was having a bad start and running your inventory nearly empty, struggling to find heals just to get through a single run). Most of the classes have viable strategies to succeed reasonably with just starter gear, so you dont have to risk anything in your inventory to play and enjoy the game and hope for some juicy loot. The loot system has the greatest balance between satisfaction and punishment that ive seen in any similar “extraction looter” game. A big part of the skill expression is in game knowledge and sense, so if you care to pay attention to the game, you almost always stand a chance against your opponent. You feel the impact when you accidentally swing your weapon into the wall or into an enemy shield. You can feel the weight of your gear on your character as youll move slower with heavy gear, you feel the weight of your weapons/equipment as you wield and swing them. Its clunky but thats part of what makes it feel immersive to me.
